Words Over Coffee - 4th February 1999
Andy Aldridge (Brightest High)

Ken Sweeney fills in a questionaire while I buy the coffees...AGAIN!

  • Are you doing any gigs to promote this?

Yes...I used to get nervous going out to play but I really don't care anymore. The songs are good. If you like them, come along, they'll sound great.

  • Do you still like the songs?

Yeah I'm mad about the songs on this album. The versions are really good. Got some nice demos as well that might be making appearances as B-sides.

  • What's the theme of the Album?

    Falling in love again.

  • What's the next one like?

Intense. Like Understand. Something intensely sad. Not for any real reason just want to make something very close to home. Not share it with anybody. Not have to explain it to anyone else.

  • Are you about to disappear for another few years?

If nobody buys this album things are going to be difficult. But I know how to get my mind working creatively now and it wouldn't be too long. That said Bring Trouble might be a very hard act to follow...but I can do it!

  • There's a number of references to the stars on the album?

Yeah I know. I know it's not cool. I lived in London and I'm supposed to be above all this (and I really thought I was)...but there you go...you go live in the country, in a big house on a hill near the sea and you end up writing all these songs about stars with words like "sleep and dream" in them. You have to wear your heart on your sleeve sometimes. This is what I feel.

  • What are you listening to at the moment?

Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider. The only album of last year
Divine Comedy - Eric The Gardener. Yes The Divine Comedy crept up on me very slowly. It took years. "Theme from Cassanova" from the Cassanova album touched parts that hitherto had remained untouched by the DC's.
"Everybody Knows" should have been Number One for about fifteen years. "Fin De Siecle" is occupying an unhealthy amount of time on my stereo and now it's probably too late. Well done Neil.
The Rain Parade - Crashing Dreams. Love this album. Love the sound of it. The Dreaminess. I'm sure somebody would tell me they were a bunch of losers but this is brillant. Atmosphere. Space in the sound. Melancholy. Some records just speak to you.
