You Don't Want A Boyfriend
  • Melody Maker - April 1991
Mercifully, this isn't the cartoon chas troupe once fronted by Jon Beast, the notorious fat bastard who now earns a living getting ritually abused at the start of Carter USM gigs. No, this Brian is something different; two sensitive young chaps with acoustic guitars, and a rather touching gently bitter lament full of painful, hard-earned wisdom. Tender like a bruise.

  • In Dublin - 24 April 1991
Once again the brains behind Brian have come up with an understated and humourous artifact which embodies the beauty of simplicity - and that's just the sleeve! Indeed much the same can be said of You Don't Want A Boyfriend. Materialising as a mere whisper, this glistening guitar figurine initially seems too fragile to force an impression. But with the warm dawning of strings all is changed utterly and a not at all terrible beauty is born.
