End of year lists #3

Posted on December 14th, 2005 by Andy

This is one I’ve eagerly awaited - Chromewaves is probably my favourite music/culture blog by a long distance and I have a huge respect for Frank’s opinion. His end of year list has plenty of interesting choices and listenables for most of them

And while I’m on a Chromewaves tip - Capitol Records have signed The Decemberists (see my earlier post to get an idea of how I feel about this) but Frank managed to cheer me up - as he reported this news on Chromewaves he speculated on what might happen when the band hand in their first record to the major label…

I sorta can’t wait to see their faces when the Decemberists hand in their next album and the suits are all, “um, what? Gay matadors on an Antarctic expedition?”

End of year lists #2

Next up is Robert at donewaiting.com who puts The Decemberists “Picaresque” right at the top - which is probably very close to where it’ll be when I finally get my list sorted out. Nice to see the very very excellent Damon & Naomi album in the top 10. There’s links to mp3s or videos for most of Roberts picks.

End of year lists #1

Not my list yet - I’m still having to think about that! BUT Tom at Indie MP3 has published a "list encompassing all that [he] enjoyed in 2005" which, with the exception of Decoration (who I’ve been not too impressed with) and a sizeable handful of stuff I don’t know (but am following up in earnest), contains a lot of very VERY fine music (and labels) indeed.
